Nando’s

Stock & Supply is the business-critical system that restaurants and supply chain teams across Nando's UK use to manage stock, orders and deliveries. It needed engineering that could keep pace with a busy national network where downtime has very visible consequences.

Nando's

Shipping full-stack features into a live, business-critical restaurant supply chain platform.

The Challenge

A national restaurant network only works if the right stock is in the right place at the right time. Stock & Supply sits at the centre of that, used daily by restaurants and supply chain teams. Any new functionality has to land cleanly into a system that can't afford to be down, and rollout problems need to be caught and resolved fast.

My Role

I joined Nando's as a Senior Software Engineer on the Stock & Supply platform, contributing across system design and full-stack feature delivery. The work spanned both the React frontend and the Node.js / TypeScript backend, and I worked closely with the wider team to keep features aligned with how restaurants and the supply chain actually use the platform.

Alongside feature work I led issue resolution and rollout support, helping ensure that changes landing into the national network stayed stable.

The Solution

The platform is built on Google Cloud Platform, using Cloud Run and Cloud Functions for the services and Firestore for high-availability data. That stack lets the team scale individual parts of the system independently, which matters when a single national rollout can put very different demands on different services.

In practice, that meant features could be shipped quickly, observed in production, and adjusted without dragging the rest of the platform with them.

Outcomes

New capabilities reached restaurants and supply chain teams without compromising the stability of a business-critical system. The engagement is a clear example of hands-on senior engineering applied to a platform where reliability isn't a nice-to-have, it's the product.
